In today’s game, the Lakers started strong, leading the Kings by 20 points at one point. The Kings’ starting lineup had only one player, De’Aaron Fox, contributing significantly to the scoring. In the first half, Fox shot 5-for-10 from the field and 2-for-3 from beyond the arc, earning 12 points.
Shortly after the third quarter began, Fox made another three-pointer. However, this turned out to be his only score in the entire second half. Facing off against Lonzo Ball always seems to ignite Fox’s competitive spirit, and he showcased that early in the game. But Fox’s performance today was clearly one of highs and lows. This could possibly be attributed to the current chaotic management situation of the Kings, making it difficult for Fox to find a clear role within the team. Compared to Ball, this may be the biggest difference between the two players.
With less than 5 minutes left in the first quarter, Fox hit a three-pointer from the right wing. In 30 minutes of play, Fox shot 6-for-16 from the field, including 3-for-5 from three-point range, finishing with 15 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals. However, in the second half, Fox only managed to score 3 more points. The matchup between the rookie point guards, Ball and Fox, was one of the most anticipated storylines of the game. Back in college, the two were rivals, with Fox dropping 39 points to lead Kentucky past Ball’s UCLA in the NCAA Sweet 16 last year. In the NBA Draft, Ball was selected second overall, while Fox went fifth in the first round.
Clearly, their rivalry is set to continue in the NBA. With just over two minutes left in the quarter, Fox pushed the ball on a fast break, used his strength to get past Ennis, and scored a layup while drawing a foul.
