Beijing Teams Share Wukesong Arena Home Court

The CBA has recently confirmed a temporary home ground swap for Beijing Enterprises, as their main venue, the Beijing Olympic Sports Center, is being reserved for large-scale events. Consequently, the team has requested to shift its home games for the 2017-2018 CBA season to the Wukesong Sports Center, a facility already shared with Beijing Shougang. This move has sparked the curiosity of local basketball fans, who wonder whether it will have any impact on the Shougang team’s home games.

Interestingly, two of the three home games of Beijing Enterprises overlap with Shougang’s home games, with only a one-day gap between matches. This raises the question: How will the arena transition from Shougang’s setup to Beijing Enterprises’ home court in less than 24 hours? To find out, reporters reached out to the venue’s management for insights.

According to the venue’s representative, after the Shougang vs. Jilin game tonight, all staff will work overnight to transform the court. This includes changing the floor decals, removing Shougang’s team photos, championship flags, and banners, and switching out other team-specific décor. The process, though challenging, is expected to be much easier than last year’s overnight transformation from basketball court to ice hockey rink, and can be completed within a few hours.

One of the notable changes will be the covering of Shougang’s fan honor wall in the outer corridor, and the blue and white locker room reserved for Shougang will not be available to Beijing Enterprises. Instead, the latter will use other locker rooms to avoid sharing space with the Shougang team.

The Shougang team has largely refrained from commenting on the shared arena arrangement, with officials stating that the change won’t affect Shougang’s regular-season games. The dates of their home matches are scheduled for January 24th, February 1st, and February 3rd, with the first of these games involving a crucial match against Beijing Enterprises.

Currently, Beijing Enterprises is in a pivotal stretch as it fights for a spot in the playoffs. The team’s upcoming home games include tough matches against Liaoning and Xinjiang. Some fans fear the unfamiliar court will negatively impact their performance. However, coach Ding Wei has assured that while there may be some minor changes in lighting and the sense of space, it will not drastically affect the team’s ability to perform. Professional athletes must maintain a positive attitude and adapt quickly, he noted, and the new venue could even serve to fire up the players’ competitive spirits.

For example, Marbury, who has a special connection with the Wukesong Sports Center, is expected to lead the team with a strong showing. With this temporary arrangement, both Beijing Enterprises and Shougang will share the arena for the foreseeable future. Tonight, Shougang will host Jilin, and tomorrow, Beijing Enterprises will face Liaoning at their new home. The hope is that even more fans will show up to cheer on their teams.
